pn959. Latest NZ Poll shows increased support for Labour and the new PM

Chris and Christopher, Hipkins and Luxon
UPDATE. Bryce Edwards and others. https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/#inbox/FMfcgzGrcPKfbckfvJhtPWMfbZQHPJWQ

The latest 1NewsKantar poll shows a major swing towards Labour and a positive initial reaction to the appointment of Chris Hipkins as Prime Minister. But the  swing is not sufficient for Labour to form a government, unless supported by Te Pāti Māori, assuming it retains the Waiariki seat. The poll indicated a hung parliament (note that the table below is in error on parliamentary seats). But it's a long, long way to the next election.

Another poll reported in the NZ Herald from Newshub-Reid Research has also shown Hipkins’ popularity with the public growing, with Labour rising nearly six percentage points to 38 per cent and National dropping 4.1 points to 36.6 per cent.

pn928. The Beginning, the Middle or the End for Christopher Luxon?

Uffindell (L) nd Luxon
OPINION.  A short while back Christopher Luxon was supposedly making statements from Te Puke while he was actually holidaying in Hawai'i.  It was reported as a staff error.

Now he supposedly was "completely unaware"  about  recently-elected Sam Uffindell's school bullying, again because his staff failed to inform him.

After previously saying he was not told of Uffindell’s bullying at King’s College, Luxon revealed staff in his office were told – they just didn’t tell him. He said that was a “mistake”despite which he said he maintains he  trusts in his staff.   ”I think it was a genuine mistake. And I really trust my staff.”

This was no mistake. Either Luxon is not telling the whole truth or his staff are incompetent.

pn880. Luxon and Seymour: Jumping in on the political gravy train

UPDATE. Auckland could change to orange first.
National Party leader Christopher Luxon jumped in ahead of today's  Government announcement by PM Jacinda Ardern on relaxing Covid mandates by calling for a complete end to Covid restrictions.  "Auckland has passed the peak of Omicron," he said, " and it’s time to move on." Act leader  David Seymour, with typical aplomb, thinks mandates should have been lifted long

pn820. Christopher Luxon, Liar or Misleader?

Falsehood/ mislead/ lie # 1. In his first address as leader of the National Party he based much of his political credibility on his business career claiming, “I have built a career out of reversing the fortunes of under-performing companies and I’ll bring that real-world experience to this role.”

But. Air NZ was a profitable and well-run company when he took over as CEO and "then rode one of the greatest travel booms in history... He arrived at the very start of a boom and left right before it came crashing down."
