pn753. How are New Zealanders informed and what do they think?

My thanks to Bernard Hickey's Dawn Chorus for this release of the Classification Office survey of beliefs. To visit the summary diagrams, click here. To read the full report, click here. This is my summary:

Asked on their daily/weekly sources of information,  25%/ 25% said Radio or TV;  24/ 25%  overseas websites, and the print press 15/ 17%.  In declining order, the workplace, email newsletters, blogs and podcasts, educational institutions, the community and religious institutions were also mentioned.

Asked about the use of social media last week, 61% mentioned Facebook, 35% YouTube, 26% Facebook Messenger, 27% Instagram, 15% WhatsApp, 14% Linkedin, and 13% Twitter.

Asked about climate change, 35% thought it was definitely and 40% thought it was probably caused by human activities (3 and 13% thought humans were NOT responsible. That makes for one in five people thinking it is not caused by human activity!), and 25 and 42% thought some groups and organizations were spreading misinformation on the topic.

Other beliefs noted: the UN is definitely/probably a force for good, 26/ 45%; immigration is good for economic growth and society, 29/ 45%; many immigrants are unwilling to fit in to NZ society, 13 /27%; and some groups and organizations are spreading misinformation on immigration and migrants (13/40%).
