pn628. This is an excellent lecture on What Makes China Tick: Three overlooked fundamentals

b

Ambassador  Bilahari Kausikan, Chairman of the Middle East Institute, National University of Singapore and former Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, delivered  a "zoom" lecture to The Research Institute of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan (RETI) on 25 November 2020. Ambassador. Kausikan began his talk by mentioning three fundamental factors about China which he said are seldom sufficiently discussed.
The text of the lecture is attached Click here.  VM

Here is a biography of the speaker, which in itself is remarkable.

His full name is Bilahari Kim Hee Papanasam Setlur Kausikan.   Bilahari is the name of a raga ( an Indian melodic framework for improvisation),  Kausikan is an Indian clan name. Setlur is a Brahmin sub-caste. Papanasam is the village his father came from in Tamil Nadu, and Kim Hee is the name his Chinese mother gave him. "I don't know how they chose it," he said, "I wasn't conscious."
