"As you may know, all New Zealand banks have now stopped accepting cheques.
"Unfortunately, this means that many of our wonderful supporters who normally pay by cheque have not donated at all.
"With the lack of donations we have received in response to the letter I shared with you in May, I am extremely concerned. A shortfall of over $100,000 is extremely significant for our organisation, and that is why I'm reaching out to you today with this urgent request."
Comment. Where new technologies lead us, we should not blindly follow.
Multiply the Blind Low Vision shortfall by all the other charities that can no longer receive donations by cheques, then estimate what bank rationalisation to remain competitive and increase their profits are costing NZ charities. Then think again about what sort of society we are becoming—and we have hardly started the 21st century's technology revolution.
