pn744. Matangireia, interviews with Māori leaders. Many facinating weekend reads here

Matangireia is the name of the old Māori Affairs Committee room in Parliament.  In Te Reo,  it means the thirteenth and uppermost heaven. Today it is a place where all iwi can meet in peaceful, harmonious, and tranquil surroundings. The new committee room is called  Māui tikitiki-a-Taranga. Pasifika, Asians and  women also have committee rooms. See this link for a tour of all the committee rooms.

Matangireia is where Morgan Godfery conducted a series of splendid interviews with previous Māori leaders about the legacy they hope to leave behind them.  It is also the name of the Radio NZ series.  Those interviewed are too many to list here but they include Dame Turia Turoa, Georgina Beyer, Paula Bennett, Ron Mark, Hone Harawira, Tau Henare and Dover Samuels

Watch the trailer  and then listen to the interviews. You have weeks of weekend reading here.
