"I thought that I shall greet you and your good lady this last weekend in November, of what has been an exceptionally challenging year, with a rendition of the old spiritual, “Kumbaya my Lord” which has been sung in countless campfires over the years and recorded by so many including Dusty Springfield, Pete Seeger, Joan Baez, the Soweto Gospel Choir, the Seekers. the Kingston Trio, the Bee Gees etc etc etc
"I have chosen below the version by Spanish legend Jose Carreras and the Vienna Symphony.
"As is generally accepted, there is no explanation of the word kumbaya except that it is a plea by to the good Lord “to come by here” and over the years it was transliterated to "kum by yah".
"You will agree that such a plea is just as relevant now." --- V.
