The Management Board which is the Party’s governing body approved at its meeting on 5th November 2020 to outsource the management of the interview process. This is also to ensure the independence, impartiality and transparency of the process.
The Social Democratic Liberal Party (SODELPA) Party President, Ratu Epenisa Cakobau is urging members and supporters to respect due processes that will be undertaken for the appointment of the Party Leader and Deputy Party Leader who will lead the Party towards the 2022 general elections.
In a statement, Ratu Epenisa said the call was made to correct misinformation that has been distributed on various social media platforms linked to the selection process of the two positions.
“I urge our members and supporters to please respect the process. We are following the requirement of a “competitive, transparent, nationally recognised selection process” for the selection of Party Leader, Deputy Party Leader and other Executive position as stipulated under the Party Constitution.
“We understand and respect that our members and supporters have their own wishes as to whom should lead the Party, however, we must acknowledge and respect that there are rigorous processes in place to ensure transparency and accountability in the selection process.
“The Management Board which is the Party’s governing body approved at its meeting on 5th November 2020 to outsource the management of the interview process. This is also to ensure the independence, impartiality and transparency of the process.
“At the same meeting, the Board recommended names to be on the interview panel which was finalized by the Working Committee.
“Upon the conclusion of the interviews, the panel will then present their recommendations to the Management Board.
“The announcement will be made at the Annual General Meeting to take place on Saturday 28th November 2020
