There's little I can add to all that has been said but I'd like to mention four long-needed positives that should result from the tragedy.
1. More stringent legislation on gun control seems likely to win total parliamentary support.
2. Action is also likely on what cannot be published on the social media.
3. There will be tighter security and shared intelligence, both nationally and internationally.
4. Finally, the "We are One" outpourings of love and support for our fellow Muslim citizens should lead to a reappraisal of what we are doing to show each other the benefits of multi-culturalism.
In this respect, our MPs and community leaders, and our media, TV, radio and social media need to be more active in countering racial, cultural and religious hatred and promoting inter-cultural understanding and enjoyment.
Our young people, our New Zealand of the future, also need greater exposure to learning and experiences that help them to enjoy our multi-cultural diversity. It is time to revisit school curricula and other activities.
