Samoa: New Elections Database

pn149
This is a most incredible research resource — and an eye-opener for the merely curious. An interactive and downloadable  database that records and analyses all 15 Samoan election results from 1964, two years after Independence, to the most recent in 2016.

It joins two similar databases, on PNG and the Solomon Islands,* created by the Development Policy Centre at The Australian National University,** and you can access it online here.  **
On the website, you can use the interactive Data Explorer to browse the election results (by electorate, date and candidates), or download a booklet of results from the Datasets page.

If you wish to cite the election data, please cite them in the following way: Wood Terence, 2018. Samoa Election Results Database. Accessed online at: http://devpolicy.org/samoaelections/datasets/
The Discussion Paper ‘Samoan Election Results: trends and patterns 1964-2016’ uses the data to highlight key features and trends in election outcomes in Samoa.

Notes
*  The databases on PNG and the Solomon Islands.  If NZ also had a university unit that specialised in Pacific Islands research, as was originally the intention of the Development Studies programme at Massey, we might also  now have data bases on a whole range of issues and on other Pacific Islands.

** The Development Policy Centre's blog is well worth adding to your bookmarks.
