Hi Crosbie,

This is really exciting.

Together, we campaigned to stop the Government funding massive irrigation schemes that were going to drive further expansion of industrial dairy. We worked together for two years and earlier this year, we won!


Because of that win, two more irrigation schemes, Hunter Downs and Hurunui, recently announced they weren’t going to go ahead as planned. Without the $480 million of irrigation funding we knocked over, these schemes just couldn’t get the customers.

This is huge. And it shows that there’s no problem we can’t solve with bit of people power.

It’s unlikely that the industrial dairy system can grow significantly after our win. But New Zealand’s agriculture system is still in bad shape. It’s still polluting rivers and is still responsible for a huge chunk of New Zealand's’ greenhouse gases.

But there is another way. Last year, we debuted our feature The Regenerators, a film showcasing New Zealand farmers who were leading the world by farming sustainably.

There’s still work to do. We’ll soon have to roll up our sleeves and get to grips with other problems in the agricultural system. But let’s remind ourselves that future we want is already here. Watch it, share it. And let’s make sure everyone knows that the future is possible, and it’s right here, in Aotearoa New Zealand.
