Predictably the regime has not responded to the allegations

Mr Crosbie Walsh,

I have listened to Bruce Hill’s interview that went to air on Pacific Beat and I have also read the transcript on Radio Australia’s website and nowhere in these items is the word predictably used.

Adding this word into your blog under the heading of ‘The Radio Australia Report’ is a misrepresentation of that report.

Please remove this error and in fairness you should also acknowledge the word predictably was not used by Bruce Hill.

Regards,

Notice the sentence I have highlighted in bold. which I find ironic given that this is precisely what Prof Ghai did.  The draft was intended, in law, only for the President,  and ABC's Bruce Hill has assisted Prof Ghai in its dissemination.

Wayne,  Happy New Year.

I did not add "Predictably" but confess to having copied the interview from an anti-government blogsite.  Checking back, I now see it was Coup4.5 or one of their sister blogs. You may care to take the matter up with them.  The word was in the introduction to the interview.

I am quite happy, "in the interests of fairness", to make this correction if Bruce would also read what I had to say about the interview in two postings on this issue (to which neither he nor Campbell Cooney have made any reference) and explain why he did not take Prof Ghai up on the legal issues raised in my article. And further, why he and Campbell Cooney, do not address the questionable legality of Prof Ghai's action.

Please also see my http://crosbiew.blogspot.co.nz/2012/12/fallout-from-draft-seizure-and-few-facts.html The red text clearly shows Prof Ghai knew he was acting illegally.

We may think the law unreasonable, as I said in the article, but not to mention it in the Hill interview was devious, to say the least. I would have thought  ABC reports that do not mention this important element are equally devious,

Please get back to me on what ABC intends to do about what appears to me to be a  breach of journalist ethics far more serious than  my copying the word "predictable."

Kind regards,
Croz

Croz
You are probably causing more damage to the military junta than anyone else, even Davis. If the junta had half a brain they would distance themselves completely from you. And certainly not give you or your wife any more freebies paid for by the repressed people of Fiji who have no freedoms including the right to vote.

Go Croz, you show 'em. Arrogant gits (with nits). Fed up with the ABC. When was the last time they were in Fiji? Can't remember but it must be nearly a year. What do they know about what's going on? All their informations comes from outsiders. If they spent any time here and stopped talking to their media mates at the Fiji Times and Republika, they might know what was happening in the country. As it is, they know nothing.

'do not address the questionable legality of Prof Ghai's action'. How galling, neither it appears did you ask any hard questions of Bainimarama when you did get the to 'interview' him on your regime assisted visit, or if you did, you certainly don't feel inclined to offer us his explanation of his own illegal takeover of a elected government with out any mandate. By any measure, your interview was a self serving opportunity for the regime and of no actual value at all, except to cement your own views. You will continue to explain away anything activities of the regime but quite amazingly hold everyone to a higher standard of accountability.

@ Anon 3:29 we know what happens when anyone locally speaks out or updates their facebook apparently and what happens when independent observers try to gain any information from those not approved by the regime and get bounced out of the country, what a joke. Locals aren't even allowed to know what is happening, get told how they should be acting and you just have to look at the gutless local reportage. At least the ABC can say what it likes and is not spineless when it comes to the regime doens't even feel inclined to explain it's own actions.I do hope you are not holding your breath to find out any actual stiories on the regime and their cronies from local media? or perhaps you wouldn't want to know.

characteristic of Croz to focus on this, yes we all know the bainimarama miltary government is the victim here and we should all be grateful for being told to shutup and agree. The legitimacy of the regime to make decrees at all he doesn't quibble with, or their warrantless raids, their harrassment of citizens, their threats, PER, deportations without natural justice, beatings, suppressing of ANY disent...all water under the bridge to him while he looks at the the big bainimarama vision for a new fairer fiji that includes immunity for an entrenched military and their mates. Lots of 'cracked eggs' on the way Croz, easy when you have already chosen sides and don't live here eh. BTW i can't imagine, consistent with the 'look north policy' why staff from Fiji National Provident Fund don't go to China,India or Azerbaijan for corporate governance training. I am surprised they didn't ask AUS to pay for it as well.

Croz to be equally petty and just to be very clear

1. No copies of the draft were actually disseminated or distributed to anyone were they?
2. Were the police acting to prevent a crime from taking place or was it a crime to have the copies of the draft printed at all?
3. You claim the interim AG didn't authorise the burning and so i expect you asked him and he denied it?

how amazing to debate 'legal issues' in a country that is ruled by decree where the police and military are a law unto themselves and their is no right to challenge them!!!

Croz, never fear. All these anti-regime windbags are turning up the heat because of one thing and one thing only - the game is getting away from them. Fiji is at peace, relaxed and comfortable ( see today's editorial in the Fiji Times. Yes, you heard right, the Times not the Sun), there will be an election next year and the sun will rise again tomorrow. These critics can't stand it. Fiji was meant to be broke, isolated and they would storm back into their sinecures. It ain't gonna happen and they are beside themselves with rage. Ignore them. They're losers.

I agree - a cute photograph of nit picking primates. From left: Wayne Shields, Crosbie Walsh, Bruce Hill who, to be more accurate, is actually a nit pickee.

Hey Croz, Fiji is moving ahead.. Bruce seems to have fumbled again, getting more loser comments from Micky and some worried chief about the imminent change to Fiji's flag- ABC link:http://www.radioaustralia.net.au/international/radio/program/pacific-beat/opposition-to-changing-fijis-flag/1069040. Ha the boring opposition.. Keep Squealing.. because Fiji is moving on from all the past crap!! congrats on the move! I am a nationalist and strongly believe that we need to form our own identity! good move on cancelling the holiday, getting new notes and hopefully this time a flag that reflects our identity. Rambo Rabuka had the chance but missed it- and finally someone will do it. In fact we should keep out of the Commonwealth Groups and the so called Forum.. Ha.. the squealing will continue from the opposition but this time action is happening and I am willing to support that and defend the nation that has been plundered by the privileged clans! god bless Fiji.. for those oldies and boring oppositions: that think that the Union flag, the rare British lion, holding a cocoa pod reflects Fiji- you are on the wrong bus..hmm..country. They are still in denial of the reality of present- look at the dove and squeal!! happy new year Croz

With due respect, Professor, 'nit-picking' is hardly a phrase for useful deployment in a continued Declared State of National Disaster. There is no time to 'pick nits' where we are situated now. People are grievously suffering and they are from all Walks of Life (Cyclones unlike coups d'etat do not discriminate). There is little time left to rescue a semblance of humanity from the ashes of years of flagrant misuse of public money. All beneficiaries (historical and current) would do well to consider this and to contemplate their navels. Their on-going and possibly indefinite benefit continue amidst egregious disregard for a desirable dignity and sense of real hope for those who are obliged unceasingly to pay for their upkeep.
A demonstration, if ever there was one, of the arrogance of power and the bottomless pit of gratuitous consumption by those little trusted to know or to be told the facts. They are told what they wish to hear. It has always been so. No need to travel to Ingushetia now for:

"If I were living in the Caucasus, I would be writing fairy tales there" (Anton Chekhov in 1888).

It would be a very brave and courageous person who thinks that any election will resolve anything for opponents of this regime. As was pointed out, there is still rage out there and consequences to all involved in this regime. Immunity or not, i can wait. The idea that Bainimarama has brought anyone together with his autocratic and unaccountable rule, you can think again.

of course...a colonel has announced that Fiji will have new flag, (they have no mandate to change anything) but that won't concern crosbie walsh. The fact that it so concerns the military it has to be an urgent issue, but so minor that they will decide on behalf of citizens on what the next flag will be. We can expect not even a whimper from crosbie on this as he has nothing invested in it. Another unilateral decison by the military without even bothering to consult anyone.

A Nation Destroyed said...

The Fiji military, under very poor and easly tricked cowardly leadership, has single handedly destroyed their own beautiful nation. Utter treasonous fools!!

%$#@! said...

The only people 'squeeling' are the regime who keep getting annoyed that their travel plans have to be approved and either cancelled or monitored (baini in UK on almost visit to daughter at the barracks). As you would expect they are third class people who deserve such treatment as they are not the peoples representatives, but temporary staff, who would never normally get their positions on any merit.

@A nation destroyed
As it did in 1987 and 2000? Or is your condemnation reserved for 2006?

The good thing is that Fiji is able to rebuild itself after every coup. The church and the chiefs got power and see what they did with it!! Not much! Sorry, but the real problem is not the poor working class but the fat pigs (OK, some were thin and just had the fat payouts) that were in power. I say change the flag and re-educate the next generation and lets get the place moving. If the Mozzies and the black birdies dont like it.. too bad.. this is our Fiji! Military to return to barracks and new gov on by 2014. Coup only if 2014 gov tries to change any of the good deeds - well we can start all over again!

%$#@! said...

and again and again and again..... who is to judge 'what the good deeds are?', clearly you won't get a say. The thugs will see to that.'Military to return to barracks and new gov on by 2014' oh i think these are mutually exclusive, and a little naive. You will see the same faces we have now. BTW 'fat payouts'... one of the first acts of Bainimarama was to award himself a 'fat payout' he didn't get under an elected government, why was that??

Anonymous said...

Fijian coups and the effects are entirely the doing of the military who have forgotten their place. They are canon fodder, dumber than dirt used by the UN and others to do the work that others fund rather than send their own boys.It is an income generation exercise for a country that has little else to offer, just like Bangladesh and Nepal. They rely on everyone else to pay, everyone else to provide logistics and support so they can come home and take over their own country and claim some higher moral purpose...to fight for indians rights and free fiji from corruption... lol what crap. Anyone seen the auditor??? They don't even believe that.

haha! Wayne Shield is a riot! talk about prickly skin. ABC puts the Fiji regime to shame. Anonymous 13:00 would do well to direct his email at Wayne: "There is no time to 'pick nits'...people are grievously suffering from (Cyclones unlike coups d'etat do not discriminate)..."etc, etc. So much to report and here is wayne with time on his to quibble. Kind of explains the problems at ABC in recent times. There have been bigger complains about ABC's reporting. How responsive have they been? How promptly do they run corrections? How many corrections have they run? many complainants will tell you they are given the runaround by ABC.

%$#@! said...

I don't recall the ABC having police in the newsrooms or having their editors detained and deported. People in Aus get to read and hear what they want.

@%$@
How naive. Do you really believe that the media is free in Australia? You should read reports on the internet about the level of government and statutory control in Australia, and about the relationship between corporate media ownership and media freedom. Look no further than Rupert Murdoch. Where the rich own the media, there is no media freedom when it comes to questioning any issues that are a threat to them. That includes the relationships which develop between media agencies and political parties and governments.

%$#@! said...

@Anon9;51 Compared to who??

Are you seriously trying to compare media freedom in the military controlled Fiji with other countries like Aus?? By ANY measure, Fiji is well down. FYI there are plenty of media outlets in Aus who will publish and broadcast even if there is opposition from a government etc It happens all the time. In Fiji they don't even publish news or opinions from OTHER countries that the regime may not like...No-one in australia has any recent memory of needing police in newsrooms to impose censorship or deporting journaists/editors for printing stories we don't like..sucha stupid defnse really. Perhaps you would be better claiming Fiji has more freedom than China.

Oh please. Where was the free media on the Julian Moti story? There was a media black out except from the socialist online press. Shameful.
