The Pro-Governmnent blog RealFijiNews stopped making postings a week ago but comments from former readers keep coming in. I wish I could say the same for this blog that attracts far too few comments. One of the attractions of blogs, particularly when the Fiji media are publishing virtually no political items, is that readers can comment anonymously on the political situation. Democracy can flourish in cyberspace.
"Brisco's" comment below may be a little "over the top" on Bainimarama, but it does draw attention to Qarase's excesses: his bloated Cabinet with 36 ministers; his questionable dealing in Fijian Holdings shares; and his very generous treatment of Speight and other 2000 coupsters. I reprint it here to draw attention to a blog that otherwise might be thought to have ceased -- and in envy. I wish my readers would comment more often, and vote in the polls noted in the lefthand column.
Here's what "Brisco" wrote in RealFijiNews today.

Voreqe, the Interim Govt and the Military Council will one day be remembered and commended for saving our beloved islands from the brink of bankruptcy. Voreqe will one day have his portrait hanging in every household's sitting room, moreso with the grassroots of the country. Critics harp with gnashing teeth that Voreqe raped democracy by overthrowing an elected Govt. That Govt won the election by vote rigging!!!! Ask Qarase, Naisoro, Baba and Foster.
Qarase whilst under the ambits of democracy was raping the country's coffers. He had a 36 minister govt which included Ministers, State Ministers and Assistant Ministers. 36 Ministerial salary bands. Aust and NZ do not even have 30 Ministers in their govts! Compare that 36 with the current 7 Ministers. Shame. Shame. Shame on you, Qarase and company.
Qarase set up his own company using the son's name in Fijian Holdings and transferred A class shares. A class are only reserved for provincial councils!
Frank's Govt does not make a show of implementing stuff for the betterment of the Fiji people. We only hear through the grapevine that this road or that road was opened...water tanks donated,....etc. In Qarase's government the print media made tonnes of money with all its media exposure and press releases.
Qarase treated prisoners like Speight differently with Speight and company having a bloody holiday in Nukulau [photo] whilst criminals of the likes of "chicken thieves" or "murqi chors" languishing in Natabua or Naboro.
What did Frank do? Closed Nukulau and told Speight "who are you ? Get to the max to serve your time there instead of playing volleyball whole day and picnicking."
There's more to come. LONG LIVE FRANK, THE IG AND THE MC..... GOD BLESS FIJI

I think your new poll (Have your opinions on the Fiji political situation changed as a result of reading this blog?) is either incomplete, or shows that your underlying biased toward Fiji's current regime.
A balanced poll would have offered two more options:
- Yes. Now a little more anti-govt
- Yes. Now much more anti-govt
Seems that you expect your readers to stick to their current position, or become more pro-government as a result of reading your blog.
I have the greatest respect for your opinions, and certainly credit you for probing the issues without the bigotry that clouds many of the other 'Fiji' blogs ... but I do think you have chosen a side.
