This appears to be an astute diplomatic move, which positions the Methodist Church more in line with the military government, without the need for the church to openly abandon its previous position.

It remains to be seen whether this will be sufficient public alignment with the military government. I suspect not and anticipate at least one more public pronouncement by the PCC in a similar vein within the next two weeks.

That will then give the military government the chance to appear magnanimous by allowing the Methodist conference to go ahead with its all-important revenue gathering.

An apparently insurmountable problem solved in a very Pacific Way.

Congratulations (hopefully not premature) to both parties
