SODELPA Does Not Needs Friends Like This

"Rahul Singh"
A posting yesterday on the Facebook group Fiji Economic Forum by someone calling himself Rahul Singh (probably not his real name or ethnicity) is much more than bad taste; it is an incitement to violence against an Indo-Fijian young woman, and a punishable offence in any country. If he really lived in Suva, I hope the police reveal his true identity and bring him to justice.

It is one thing to use the social media to express an opinion and differ with another's opinion (and even to yet excited about doing so); but it is quite a different matter to write that a person is "the source of all evil, racism and hatred in Fiji" and urge those reading your comment to  "spit at her, beat her up, mutilate her and burn her house down."

He goes on to talk about the "jihadi terrorists" who run Fiji but he is the one speaking the language of terrorists. The rest of what he writes is an incoherent rambling about foreigners who have taken control of Fiji, intent on wiping out the " proud Fijian civilization (that has) been in existance for over 3000 years."  "Today," he says, "they ridicule you, steal from you...tomorrow these criminals will kills you,."

The Banner on "Rahul Singh's" Facebook page
Unfortunately, many readers who comments supported Rahul also supported SODELPA which surely does not need the assistance of deranged minds like this. Its supporters should heed the advice of Ro Teimumu who earlier called on her supporters not to act in this manner.

Who, she might now ask, needs enemies when she has friends like this?   .

Footnote. You have to apply to join Fiji Economic Forum and its publisher can remove comments if he sees them as undesirable. Once one of the better sites for discussion, it is now by far the worst.

Yes unacceptable.

The only people who are allowed to mutilate, beat up or burn houses down are the MILITARY. Everyone knows that - think a former judge, think NGO and democracy supporters. Think anyone not considered a government friend.

PS I'm not excusing Rahul - not at all. But lets be clear what the PMs own men have done and how he has protected them.

Frank had advised these pro racist, self gaining, mentally frail and disillusioned people not to jump in the fire.
Now they jumped and burned their arse and later blamed Frank for pushing them in. NGO's funded by Aus and NZ were against Frank. Remember that time with all the sanctions. Now that Frank is doing an outstanding job these buggers are feeling so confused. Even lost more than before. Even a good deed by Frank is seen as hate.

I guess when you are faced with the dilemma that your boat is slowly sinking, you will look around and try and clutch on anything that is floating including the spray of the waves as it hits the side of your sinking boat-DESPERATION I hear.
There is no place for racism, hatred and profanity where Fiji wants to head.

Freedom of speech is a great concept, isn't it? The diatribe spewed by 'Rahul' is despicable and should be condemned by reasonable people. However it's better to know what dark thoughts lurk in the minds of some, so as to better be able to argue against them and point out their fallacy. Rather that, than those murderous, arsonist thoughts be kept private and acted on under cover of darkness.

Anon at 8.36pm sends a timely reminder that violent deeds are far worse than intemperate words.

Haven't read the comments but is 'Rahul' identified as a SODELPA member? Were his comments run under the SODELPA party banner? Does anyone know?

Ro Teimumu is quite right to call on Sodelpa supporters to not act in this manner. Crosbie's reading of the situation is worrying and he's many times given an implicit warning that Sodelpa is the party of extremists.

Therefore I believe that it's an important duty for reasonable, tolerant Fijians to vote for Sodelpa to counter this apparent extremism. It's only by force of numbers that the party will retake the middle ground. It would be utterly illogical to argue that leaving extremists to dominate a major party is the best way to counter extremism. Therefore the only peaceful way to ensure that the party and its manifesto isn't hijacked by a mob of 'Rahul Singhs' is to give your moderate vote to Sodelpa.

FijiFirst is already confident of victory and so moderates voting for Sodelpa will benefit our country in two ways, by ensuring a strong opposition and ensuring that opposition isn't radical.

Croz, I'd never even heard of the Fiji Economic Forum before reading about it here. If you believe it's by far the worst site for discussion, why are you doing it a favour by giving it the oxygen of publicity on your site? Why don't you just ignore it?

Publicity becomes a significant problem for Fiji First. The anti-government machinery has shifted into top gear and is now producing worrying anti-government propaganda on an hourly basis. Our AG who has the mandate as election minister to deal with the insightful statements seems to be too weak to act. Every unfair and biased C4.5 post triggers hundreds of comments, the hits on such websites have gone ballistic and this will influence election results. At the same time there is a massive campaign of the methodists going on in the villages trying to convince the uneducated that the AG is going to steal their land. The methodists have even swooped so low as to claim that the Fiji First General Secretary wrote a thesis in which he argues for the termination of indigenous culture and tradition. If we let these elections slide to the opposition we give the AG no other option than another coup.

Really really weak argument in my books. I almost fell off my chair laughing mate.

Sorry mate I live overseas hence not up-to-speed with pulse on the ground back home. How reliable is your information in regards to methodists campaigning on behalf of Sodelpa?
If it is true, it is a really sad sad day for methodist church.

So, mate - your position is that Sodelpa should be allowed to become a party of extremists? No wonder you stay overseas laughing your head off. Too scared to come back here in case of what may happen if the extremists do start something. Can't say I blame you, mate. We've all seen what can happen here when a small group gets fired up. Trouble is, the next time it happens there won't be a peaceful solution, which is why an extremist Sodelpa is a very bad thing. Not for you though as you'll just be entertained by it all on tv.

Very reliable mate. Not sure what you mean about it being a sad sad day for the Methodist Church. Where have you been since 1987 bro?

Anonymous said...

Agree. It is becoming obvious by the day that the illegal AG was behind the coup and will use the option of another one if necessary?

I thought George Speight's mob did all the raping, looting and burning and the military came and knocked them over and thats why Georgie is now learning animal husbandry in Naboro. Georgie's mob killed a soldier and a policeman in the process.Have you forgotten that?

Anonymous said...

Ah okay. So he is in jail for "raping, looting and burning" as you say? I thought that it was because of treason. Hmmm but I suppose you are right because if I am then isnt Bainimarama supposed to be his classmate in "animal husbandry" as well?

As for your second question about the soldier and the policemen (you cant even remember their names) no we have not forgotten, just as we have not forgotten Rabaka, Selesitino, Nimacere, Soko etc...

Anonymous said...

My thoughts exactly. This article received more publicity than the captured fijian soldiers.

There will be backstabbing on an epic scale come election day. Khaiyum has already booked his flights.

Private Weleilakeba was the soldier shot and killed. He is related to me. He was killed with a Indian policeman in a rebel ambush in Sawani by Speight's hitman, Alifereti Nimacere, who in turn was killed by soldiers in a shootout in Nadonumai (do you know where that is?. Another policemen (a Fijian from Ra) was shot as he sat in the back of a police landrover i Suva. His names escapes me for now, but I do know where to find his details (not that it matters now that he is passed). As for Bainimarama being a fellow student with Speight; the difference is that Bainimarama won and Speight lost. "To the victors, go the spoils", as the saying goes.

There were three other innocent soldiers who were shot and killed at their desks as they worked in QEB when Selestino's peers in the CRW attacked the HQ. Selestino was the leader of Speight's security detail and also acted as his security advisor at Parliament House. He quickly lost his bravado when he met up one-on-one with loyalist soldiers. Stino is now pushing up daisies from six feet under. Quite frankly the guy was a 'show off' who dies the way he chose to live. And Fiji is now a better place.

Anonymous said...

So you would have all commemorate that convicted criminal and murderer Alifereti Nimacere.

It say a lot about you.

Anonymous said...

Yes Iam afraid it does. I would remember all the victims equally. I have never had the knack of judging others or putting a value to their worth by occupation, lineage, status or whatever else. A life has always been a life to me. I may as well be the same class as Nimacere by your standards I suppose but I do not dare think less of a man when someone I know died for him as well as me.

Anonymous said...

Nimacere took more than one innocent life and paid the price. He was a coward and a murderer and deserved what he got. May he rot in hell.

Anonymous said...

Nimacere's demise was definitely the least worst thing that happened in the 2000 coup.

Anonymous said...

The killing of loyal Fijian soldiers and policemen by ethno-nationalist thugs and murderers like Nimacere was the clearly the worst. Any loss of innocent lives is the highest price a community can pay.

Anonymous said...

Is that a veiled threat of civilian coup like 2000. Feels like sodelpa is already conceding defeat

Now, read the election results and weep, sob sob sob.
