FLP Risks Deregistration

MEDIA RELEASE: FIJI LABOUR PARTY FAILURE TO MEET REQUIREMENTS OF POLITICAL PARTIES DECREE

The Fiji Labour Party (FLP) has refused to comply with a key financial requirement of the Political Parties (Registration, Conduct, Funding and Disclosures) Decree 2013, (Decree) and has been temporarily suspended for its failure to comply.

The FLP was required to submit a payment of $6375.60 to the registrar’s office to pay for the cost of the publication of its declaration of assets and liabilities, due on July 15th, but failed to do so.

“The financial responsibilities of the political parties and possible repercussions set out in the Decree have been clear all along. All the parties must follow the same set of rules,” said Mohammed Saneem, The Registrar for Political Parties.

The Social Democratic Liberal Party (SODELPA) and the National Federation Party (NFP) met the payment deadline.

“Unfortunately, this seems to have been a deliberate decision by FLP leadership to not abide by the Decree. It is now up to them to remedy their breach,” Saneem  said.

The FLP has sixty days to pay or face deregistration as a political party.

During this period of suspension, the FLP cannot operate, function, represent or hold itself out to be a political party.

Is this morsi khaiyum style of democracy? What a wonderful future Fiji has under this draconian model of repression of opposition at all costs.
However I'm with you on this one croz - take all the FLP up to the I-taukei military barracks for a flogging until they learn how to do as the military tell them.

This is good news! The most corrupt of the parties is out. Now lets find out how we can get the others. We do not need elections and Australian style democracy, we need responsible and visionary leaders, i.e. leaders like our PM and our AG. Lets all unite behind them and forget about elections.

What happened to the millions he stole from the poor farmers? Has his useless son spent it all in Sydney? The biggest con artist Fiji has ever seen.

Visionary leaders? Nelson Mandela, Ghandi and Martin Luthor Kings were visionaries. These two are making mistake after mistake everyday and have absolutely no accountability to us citizens. No Government is perfect hence Democracy - let the people decide! Im no FLP supporter but i support democracy, transparency and accountability. Look up those words coz they might sound foreign to this regime and their beneficiaries.
