DISINFORMATION #7 Dictator Bainimarama off to China for Treatment for his Ailing Health

Disinformaton #7
Another blog, similar to Coup4.5, but less well resoured, is Sai Lealea's FijiCoup2006. Having not been in Fiji since before the 2006 Coup Sai has to rely totally on what others tell him. His story in June is another one of the "Bainimarama is dead-dying-terminally ill-seen staggering-needing support" stories that have been published by anti-Government blogs for over three years. Many, like this one, are associated with trips to China. Here is Sai's  story published on June 6th:

"The Regime is using a Trade Symposium as the excuse for the illegal Fiji PM is taking visit to China tomorrow! As has been reported recently on this Blog, the Dictator has been bedridden and seriously sick and not been seen at work or be it only fleetingly."

And here's the probable explanation to the mix of truth with false conclusions that typifies his misinformation:

"The PM had the flu about two weeks ago, as did many people in Fiji. It's the cold and flu season here. There as a picture taken of him last Tuesday after Cabinet, and he is over the flu and looking fantastic.Nothing wrong with him at all. The China trip is exactly what it claimed to be.  His itinerary was so heavy he would have have had no time for medical treatment. And since he's been back, he's had many official meetings and met with so many people who can testify he is very much fit as a fiddle."

A common disinformation tactic is to mix some truth and observation with false conclusions and lies, or to reveal part of the truth while presenting it as the whole.

It is clear that most of these anti government bloggers live in a bubble in far away lands. If they were living in Fiji they would see the PM in the papers on a daily basis, touring the country, out shopping, playing rugby or going to church. They have lost touch with reality.

“A common disinformation tactic is to mix some truth and observation with false conclusions and lies, or to reveal part of the truth while presenting it as the whole.”

On June 14th in an interview Sharon Smith Johns clearly stated that Fiji TV had been given their license. We all know that they only were given a temporary license over 2 weeks later.

That is clear disinformation on the part of Fiji’s Ministry of Information.

This is far worse than a blogsite making up stories. This is a Permanent Secretary appointed by Bainimarama lying on air. She was lying to spread disinformation to protect Khaiyum.

Knowing this you still publish everything verbatim that comes from Min Info.

If you are going to claim to be balanced at least make an effort

By false conclusions and concealing the truth do you mean tactics like calling a 'junta' a 'government'?
