Vodafone Fiji Exposes Coup4.5 Allegations on Khan and Interceptions

News Release
Vodafone Clears Air on Blog site Comments

It has come to the attention of the management of Vodafone Fiji Limited that certain blog sites have published information about its Managing Director and Vodafone Fiji which are defamatory, libellous, and false. As a result it has become necessary to issue a statement in
response to these false published statements.

Mr Aslam Khan has been at the helm of Vodafone Fiji for the last seventeen years with an
impeccable record and distinguished professional career. He is a respected business executive and member of the community.

Accordingly, Vodafone Fiji states the following:
  • Aslam Khan has never been detained in the United States.
  • Aslam Khan has never been frisked in the United States by Stage Agents of the United Statesat anytime;
  • Neither Aslam Khan nor Vodafone is involved in financing terrorist activities or terrorism
  • No military personnel in the history of Vodafone Fiji, throughout Fiji’s history of political instability, have ever been permitted to neither enter our exchange nor monitor calls.
  • Vodafone Fiji does not have the technological capabilities to allow mobile phones to be tapped or intercepted.
  • Nor is there any legislation in Fiji that permits the Interception or monitoring of calls by state agents unlike countries such as Australia and New Zealand which have Interception Act.
  • Mobile phone billing records are only released to the Director CID’s office on production of a court order such as search warrant.
Statement Issued and signed by:
Mr. Lionel Yee

Croz, the test here will be whether Coup 4.5 publishes this statement. I somehow doubt that they will, given the overall level of censorship on the site. I have sent them many comments over the past few months that don't make the light of day because they run counter to 4.5's view of the world. 4.5 is supposedly run by journalists. But they're journalists who denounce authoritarianism while employing all the trappings of an authoritarian state themselves, in suppressing any view they don't agree with. Yes, hypocrites.

Should easily be able to determine who these people are. They have much in common with Murdoch's now reviled UK tabloid scribblers and executives. It has taken a full Parliamentary outcry to unseat them and they will be answering to a Committee of Enquiry on Tuesday 19 July. No apologies offered yet in Fiji for years of outrageous and unprofessional conduct: killing the messengers even when the lives of women were at risk in a war zone?

Is coup four point five being run by the Fiji Times journalists? If so, no wonder we still have the PER? Making up stories is journalistic ethics?

Croz, C4.5 now has proclaimed that the cane crushing season is doomed. They base it on supposedly 5 weeks of crushing, when it's TWO weeks into crushing.

And based on two weeks, they have already preempted the entire season?

Aren't they supposed to be journalists from Fiji, meaning they can't write any more beyond how the village rugby team won against another, and the usual subsequent accolades dedicated to God?

The lack of errors/typos/liberal sprinkling of ill-placed apostrophes in C4.5's writings suggests journos from Fiji aren't their sole authors.

Ah Lionel Yee is still around !!!

Just digressing a bit but wonder what his take is on this FNPF Pension mess !!

In particular how did he expect pensions at the rate 25% to be paid out, and where would the funds ome from after 4 years when the pensiones balance had been exhausted.

just see the schemes plan as attached to jackson mar submission. It is all there..something called the Pension Buffer Fund and its compound interest earnings, plus the profitable earnings saved in the general reserves....

@ Killing the Messengers....

It was not only trafficked women from Fiji to Iraq who were left unprotected and under-investigated by the Murdoch-owned newspaper Fiji Times and other Fiji-based media entities. No assistance of any useful kind was offered in the killing of three people in Nadi between 2005 and 2009. All business people. Were the journalists paid off to keep quiet? Along with others? Why the conspicuous silence and failure to act? Was this cowardice in the face of threats? Corruption takes many forms. Silence in the face of murder and perjury is contemptible.
