(o) Government "Cleaning Up" Appointed Boards' Inefficiencies and Abuses

A review of most of the government appointed boards and statutory bodies is now underway to ensure that they are running cost effectively and working in the best interest of the taxpayers of the country.

Reliable sources have today confirmed to FijiVillage News that this step has to be taken to ensure that the objectives of each organisation are achieved without wastage.

Our source said one of the issues being looked at is the companies that have a number of subsidiaries and the total amount of board fees and allowances paid to the board members. The major issue is that some companies and subsidiaries have the same board members sitting in a number of boards and the people get separate board fees and allowances from each board.

A streamlining process is now underway which will see the board members only getting one directors fees and allowances for the parent board and its subsidiaries. This will result in a huge reduction in costs as people will not get separate fees and allowances from the subsidiaries.

Our source said a lot of people were put in the positions of authority after December 2006 and the government thought that they will fulfill the required objectives.

But our source said some of the people who came in to assist and took up board memberships and other positions abused their powers.

Our reliable source said these people thought that it was the 1987 coup and they started looking after their own interests and of those who they knew.

And in our sources words and I quote "We will now weed them out" end of quote.

The source said a few companies are now being reviewed and the decision will be the same - remove incompetence and scrap the numerous board directors fees and allowances and only get one directors fees and allowances
